Fantastic Cornish self catering holidays for winter 2011

Cottage in Cornwall, Winter 2011If you’re looking for a last minute break in one of our gorgeous holiday properties, you might be in luck. We do occasionally get cancellations so it’s well worth checking things out via our bookings page. You never know your luck!

Otherwise, we’re already thinking about winter 2011. It might seem a bit nutty to start thinking about winter holidays when the school holidays have only just started. But we know how important it is to plan ahead, especially as our Cornish holiday cottages are so popular. So we’ve recently launched our lovely new winter holidays brochure. You can flip through online or request a printed copy if you prefer – just follow the link.

In winter our county shows a different face. You’ll fall in love with crisp, fresh, bright days when the sun shines as brightly as summer, making the wet sand gleam with reflected light. You’ll never forget the way skeins of wispy cloud create beautiful patterns in the sky and on the sea below, the colour of sun-warmed lead. Cornish holiday homes offer better shelter than a tent… plus all mod cons!

Our fierce Atlantic storms are something to remember – you’ll never forget your first as the wind lashes and howls, blowing intricate patterns into the sand and beating the waves flat. The sound of a high storm tide is unbelievable; a massive, rhythmic rushing and sucking that mirrors your heartbeat and tangles your hair into salty spikes. Perfect for the romantic at heart, ideal for adventure lovers and a visual treasure trove for walkers, artists, rock-poolers and beachcombers.

The only thing missing down here in the winter is hot sunshine. But if you’re not that keen on roasting your bits and bobs on the beach, there’s no comparison. We love it. And we’re sure you will too. So take a tour of our winter brochure and book nice and early. Winter Cornish self catering holidays ‘r’ us!

Cosy Cornish beach cottages – Fall in love with Tresawle

Tresawle Cornish beach cottages don’t come much more cosy than Tresawle, a sturdy, attractive holiday home in Langurroc, Crantock. It takes six adults and one child under two and it’s right in the middle Crantock Village, which makes in marvellously convenient. There’s handy private parking for at least two cars off-street and the gorgeous sandy beach – equally popular with families, couples and surfers alike – is only five minutes’ walk away. So you can ditch the car for the duration if you like!

Tresawle is a large, airy detached house that’s recently been renovated to a wonderfully high standard. We’ve done a fantastic job – if we say so ourselves – and our visitors love it! You’ll enjoy your own sloping private gardens and a useful back garden area too, complete with two patio areas and a lawn. We’ll be finalising the landscaping during winter 2011 but it’s lovely right now, perfect for outdoor fun and games in private.

Indoors there’s two sitting rooms, lots of comfy seating, TV with FreeSat and a DVD player. Plus a fireplace with a log burner to take the chill off and help you create intimate, romantic evenings. There’s an excellent kitchen dining room with a smart double oven, induction hob, big fridge and freezer, dishwasher, filtered water and a microwave.

Plus – a real essential for sandy, sunny, happy, grubby Cornish coastal cottages holidays with the kids – a big, spotlessly clean family bathroom with a corner bath, shower, sink and loo.

There’s oil fired heating if you need it, a washing machine and tumble drier, phone and Wireless Broadband. Best of all, there’s two really good local pubs on the same scenic lane, which also leads down to pretty St Carantoc Church. As Cornish coast cottages go, it’s a beauty.

Cornish coastal cottages – Five exciting things to do on the beach

Cornish Cottage With our stunning Cornish coastal cottages for rent in Crantock, in Feock and on the Camel Trail, there’s every opportunity for fun and games on the county’s countless beautiful stretches of beach.

If you’re a sun worshipper it’s obvious what to do when you get there; slap on the sun cream, pick up your towel and roast for the day! But what if you’re the opposite of a sun worshipper, someone who burns easily, gets bored sitting around or has little kids to keep entertained?

Here’s our top five ideas for making the most of the glorious sands and rocky inlets near our Cornish beach cottages.

· Buy a book about local sea life and wildlife and take the kids on an adventure. Rock pools are packed with amazing mini-beasts like shrimp – which are completely see-through – to edible crabs and hermit crabs, limpets and even cowrie shells if you’re lucky. Plus there’s interesting sea weed, sand worms and strange beach-loving insects to discover

· Cornish coast cottages deliver the perfect opportunity for a beach all-nighter. Wrap up warm, take food and drinks and stay up to see the sun rise. There’s nothing quite so lovely and you can always sleep on the beach next day… you’re on your hols!

· Walk along the beach when the tide’s low, exploring the coastline from sea level instead of up on the coastal path. Just take great care with the tides – get a tide timetable and set off when the tide’s on its way out, giving yourself plenty of time and making sure you don’t get stranded

· Make the world’s biggest and most elaborate sandcastle. Make it human-sized if you like. Create it below the high tide line and give saving it your best shot when the tide comes in. It soon gets hilarious when the waves start encroaching and your lines of defence, trenches and walls come crashing down. The kids will go home very happy… and suitably exhausted!

· Make it your mission to find treasure. Treasure can be as prosaic as a beautiful piece of worn driftwood for your garden or as special as a rare sea shell, mineral, crystal or fossil. And your Cornish beach cottage is the perfect place to store your treasures, much better than in a tent or hotel room. Go collect… natural souvenirs hold wonderful memories!

Coastal Cornwall cottages with personality – Meet ‘The Meadow’

The Meadow We’re seeing a huge hike in enquiries for our coastal Cornwall cottages over summer 2011. Three of which are in Feock, a pretty little place overlooking the scenic River Fal Estuary.

Our three Feock coastal cottages in Cornwall are perfect if you love sailing, exploring this beautiful part of southern Cornwall from the glittering water. And they’re close to gorgeous Loe Beach, the popular, vibrant beaches in Falmouth, King Harry ferry and – of course – the unforgettable Roseland peninsula.

Take ‘The Meadow’. Like all our holiday homes, it’s packed with personality. You won’t find a faceless, bland property. Instead you’ll fall in love with well equipped, stylish, cosy and contemporary holiday cottage that looks fantastic as well as functioning perfectly. A real home from home.

The Meadow is wonderfully comfortable and fresh. It’s on one storey, on the waterside, with three smart bedrooms and splendid creek and countryside views. Sleeping up to six adults, it’s spacious and light and, because it’s down a secluded country lane, it’s nice and private.

The living room has big, squashy sofas and the kitchen is a chef’s dream, with everything you need to create gourmet dishes… or just beans on toast! Plus home comforts like a nice, big telly, an MP3/I-Pod player and digital radio, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer and built in oven with hob. The family-sized bathroom is a treat too, spotless and sparkling with a bath, shower, sink and separate loo.

It’s a genuine winner for all tastes. There’s the bright lights and entertainment offered by Truro and Falmouth nearby as well as some of the most stunning landscapes in Britain. Everything from outdoor activities and extreme sports to bird watching, sun worshipping, retail therapy, theatre and clubbing is within easy reach. Sounds good? You’d better book fast… see you soon!

Cornwall dog friendly cottages – Introducing beautiful Chapel Barn

Chapel Barn It’s self catering Jim… but not as we know it! We’ve spent a lot of time, love and effort getting gorgeous Chapel Barn up to scratch. Once neglected, tatty and sad, now it’s a gorgeously comfy and good looking example of Cornwall self catering accommodation at its best. And, along with the rest of our properties, it delivers top quality Cornwall dog friendly cottages for couples and families who like a spot of real luxury with their furry friend in tow!

So what’s the story? Chapel Barn is a stunning detached period cottage on two floors. It sleeps as many as four grown ups and one child under two. So it’s perfect for two-couple breaks and family holidays, with nice, big beds and large ensuite bathrooms for privacy. Plus a loo upstairs.
The building itself is absolutely charming, a listed barn dating back to the 1600s. It’s in the perfect position too, just outside the lovely little town of Bodmin down a secluded lane, and just five miles from Poleybridge. But best of all, it’s right on the amazingly lovely Camel Trail.

The what?! The Camel Trail. You’ll love it. It’s a beautiful multi-use trail, an old railway line that winds through the unforgettable countryside between Wenfordbridge and Padstow, meandering along the edges of the spectacular Camel estuary. Brilliant for safe, scenic horse riding, cycling, picnics and walking with out a hint of traffic to disturb the deep, green peace. There’s wildlife, flora and fauna galore and plenty of places to hop off the trail for drinks and snacks.
Chapel Barn has its own private garden, west-facing with sturdy table, chairs and bench seating. It’s amazingly comfortable. It’s close to some of the county’s best attractions. There’s broadband on tap for free. It’s furnished in attractive contemporary style, packed with personality. And you couldn’t be more convenient for the Camel Trail if you tried!

Holiday accommodation Cornwall – A winner even if it rains!

Great Weston Farmhouse It’s gorgeous down here. Like a picture postcard. But with the best will in the world, even in the height of summer it sometimes pours down. That’s the British weather for you! Luckily when you book Cornish self catering holidays you’re comfortable whether or not the weather decides to play fair.

Camping is great fun but cottage holidays win hands down when it’s wet or stormy. Plenty of our customers love the variety the weather gives and spend all their time outdoors whether it’s hot and sunny or the opposite. But others hole up indoors until the sun comes out again, entertaining themselves in style and comfort while the campers huddle under soggy canvas!

The same goes for hotels. Brilliant when it’s sunny. Not so much fun when it’s pouring down. They’re designed for sleep, really, not to live properly in. We’ve got a huge choice of holiday accommodation. Cornwall and all it offers is right on your doorstep. And when you hire a home-from-home with us you’re guaranteed a cosy, comfortable, well equipped holiday no matter what the weather throws at you.

Here’s just a handful of our large collection of luxury Crantock Cornwall cottages. Dogs are very welcome as long as they’re well behaved.

  • cute and compact, luxurious Beach House sleeps two
  • Lavender Barn, a wonderfully smart conversion, sleeps two
  • pretty Guillemot and Kittiwake cottages both sleep two to four
  • spacious Tresawle sleeps two to six
  • large, stylishly decorated Carpe Diem sleeps two to eight
  • terraced Sunnyside sleeps two to eight, as does scenic Great Weston
  • immaculate Nenagh sleeps two to six
  • attractive Corner House sleeps two to four

Just make sure you secure your holiday cottage in good time – this summer’s looking like one of our busiest ever and we’re taking bookings like hot cakes!
