Electricity, Gas, Oil, Telephone and Broadband Charges
Heating and power is either included in the cost of the rental or charged using a meter. The Cottage Description should state how utilities are charged. Let us know if it is not clear.
The following section applies to cottages where one or more of the utilities are paid for by the holiday maker.
Where a meter is used, the holiday maker has control over the energy they consume and only pay for the telephone calls they make (when a phone is available), not the standing charge. We have found in certain cottages this leads to a lower usage of energy and a lower overall cost to the holiday maker, as these costs would otherwise need to be built into the price per week.
It is our policy to charge the holiday maker the actual cost of the energy consumed. We do NOT take a profit margin on top of the cost of telephone calls, electricity, LPG Gas or Oil.
In some cottages we do offer free heating and/or power. If this is the case it will be clearly stated at time of booking.
Our Terms of Business describe if a deposit is required for the Cottage you are using. Click here to see our Terms of Business.
Electricity
All the cottages with electricity meters, have their own pre-paid electricity meter which clearly shows in £s how much credit is in the meter at the start of the holiday and how much is left at the end. You pay the difference. You pay the price that SWEB charge.
It is our intention to leave adequate money on the meter so that you should not need to top up the pre-paid electricity card, which can be done at the Londis in Crantock. The card is similar to a pre-paid phone where you need to put money on the phone (in this case the electricity meter) before you can use it. If you are not familiar with a pre-paid electricity card or would like to understand how they work please visit the SWEB web site by clicking here. If the link does not work please let us know as SWEB may have changed their site since last testing the link.
LPG Gas
Where there is heating by LPG Gas and the Cottage Details state it is charged for, there is a Gas meter which records the volume of Gas used. We charge the current replacement cost of the Gas. The reading on the meter will be agreed with you by our Property Manager when you arrive. When you leave the gas used will be calculated by subtracting the meter reading from when you arrive from the meter reading when leave and multiplying the volume by the replacement cost per cubic meter.
Oil
Where there is heating by Oil and the Cottage Details state it is charged for, there is a digital oil meter that records the litres of oil used during your stay. The reading on the meter will be agreed with you by our Property Manager when you arrive. When you leave the oil used will be calculated by subtracting the meter reading from when you arrive from the meter reading when leave and multiplying the volume by the replacement cost per litre.
Telephone
Where there is a telephone line, we charge for the calls made from the time you arrive to the time you leave. BT provide the phone line and we use their internet billing system to list all the calls made and the charges associated with them.
Broadband
Where Broadband is available, it is included in the cost of renting the cottage.
